Heraklion (HER) and Chania (CHQ) airports
Crete is served by two main international airports. Check your booking voucher to confirm which airport you land at.
Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis (HER)
Located 5 km east of Heraklion city. Car hire desks operate in the terminal arrivals area or via supplier shuttle services.
Chania Daskalogiannis (CHQ)
Located on the Akrotiri peninsula, 14 km northeast of Chania. Desks are situated in the main arrivals terminal.

Road out and island driving
The northern national road connects Heraklion and Chania. Mountain roads require extra care and low gear discipline.
From Heraklion airport you join the VOAK (National Road 90) heading west towards Rethymno and Chania, or east towards Agios Nikolaos. Drive with care on coastal stretches and mountain passes.

Which airport should I fly into for western Crete?
Chania Airport (CHQ) is closer if you are staying in Chania, Rethymno or the western prefectures. Heraklion (HER) serves central and eastern Crete.
Do I need an International Driving Permit in Greece?

What should I inspect before driving away?
