Fuel policy, in one gauge each

The policy fixes the level you collect at and the level you must return at. Photograph the gauge both times.

Full to full

You collect full and return full. Keep the refuelling receipt from a station near the airport. The fairest policy if you drive a lot.

Pre-paid full tank

You pay for a tank at the desk and return at any level. Check the price per litre and whether unused fuel is refunded. A short stay rarely empties a tank.

Returned below the line

Return under the agreed level and the supplier may charge the fuel plus a refuelling service fee. The service fee is in the rental conditions.

The road out

The ME-1 crosses the island from Mahón to Ciutadella, with Es Mercadal halfway. Beach roads branch off it and are narrower; car parks at the popular coves fill early in summer.

No car? Bus line 10

Airport to Mahón bus station, 2.80 euros, stop on floor 1 (departures). Into Mahón it runs 05:55 to 22:15 from October to May and until 00:15 from June to September, every 30 or 60 minutes. Later than that: taxi or hire car.

How far is Menorca Airport from Mahón?

6.6 km by road, about 15 minutes. Bus line 10 links the airport with Mahón bus station for 2.80 euros.

How long is the drive from Menorca Airport to Ciutadella?

About 45 km and 50 minutes, almost all of it on the ME-1, the road that crosses the island from Mahón to Ciutadella.

Is there a bus if I land late?

From the airport into Mahón, line 10 runs until 22:15 from October to May and until 00:15 from June to September. After that, the options are a taxi or a hire car.

Can I drive a hire car on unpaved roads in Menorca?

Only if the rental agreement allows it. Many agreements exclude damage on unpaved tracks, so read that clause before you drive to a beach down a dirt road.
